Hydroponic Systems - Water Pumps
There are many Hydroponic water pumps on the market that you can use to design your Hydroponic nutrient tank with. Eco Plus has a full line of Hydroponic water pumps that work great in Hydroponic systems. They have many sizes available for a very small Hydroponic system all the way up to a very large one and they are priced very reasonably. Most Hydroponic stores will carry these or a similar brand of Hydroponic pumps. Another brand of Hydroponic pump which is good is Rio. Rio also has a full line of pumps in many sizes. Becket has several water pumps available that also work very well for Hydroponic systems. Becket pumps can usually be found at any garden center that sells supplies for ponds and waterfalls.
The main thing when choosing a Hydroponic water pump is don't go too small. You can always decrease the water flow with a small water flow ball valve but you will never be able to increase the maximum flow if you find it is not enough. Most Hydroponic pumps are rated at about 3 feet in rise and up to 8 feet or so for a larger one. The higher the rise the lower the gallons per hour. Read the specs on the pump and go for more, not less, than your situation. Again, more is better with Hydroponic pumps. |
Hydroponic Systems - Air Pumps
A good air pump is worth its weight in healthy plants no matter what the cost. All plants, hydroponically grown or not, grow much better and faster when oxygen and carbon dioxide are introduced into their root systems. A good way of doing this is to introduce it into the Hydroponic nutrient solution inside the Hydroponic nutrient tank. When the Hydroponic solution is pumped to the plants their roots are bathed in oxygen enriched solution making them much healthier and robust. They grow bigger and faster and healthier. Many large greenhouse operations spend thousands of dollars on carbon dioxide equipment which pumps carbon dioxide into the growing areas making the plants grow like crazy. Hydroponic plants need carbon dioxide in the same way.
There are many good air pumps available on the market to enrich your Hydroponic nutrient solution with more oxygen. Eco also makes a full line of air pumps along with their line of water pumps. They have tiny single outlet air pumps up to larger 8 outlet air pumps for larger Hydroponic systems. I would not recommend anything smaller than a 2800 cc per minute air pump no matter what brand you buy and this would be for a smaller Hydroponic nutrient tank like the one we have constructed above.
If you have a larger system, use a larger model to get plenty of oxygen into your Hydroponic Nutrient solution. Use the largest air stone or stones you can in the Hydroponic nutrient tank also. Most all air pumps are very reasonably priced and last for years and are well worth the cost. Most of the better ones also come with the little one way check valves for the hoses so you don't get any siphoning action if you place the air pump down too low. We always place our air pumps above the water level of the Hydroponic nutrient tank and use the check valves. No worries.
